State Street Church is active in both local and global mission projects. Locally
the church sponsors the Clothes Closet which is open on Wednesdays from
9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. It provides clothes for men, women, and children; sheets,
towels and other linens; small toys, and household items such as pans,
dishes, etc. are dispersed, with no questions asked, to the needy of Greater
Portland.
In addition, each month members of State Street Church volunteer at the
Wayside Soup Kitchen. Canned goods are continually collected and donated
to the Woodford's Congregational Church ProjectFEED. Each December the
Mission Board chooses a special Christmas project to help a local charity.
State Street Church has also hosted and does support the New Sudan
Education Initiative which is working to build schools in Sudan.
Globally State Street Church contributes to the United Church of Christ
Neighbors In Need which works on economic and social justice for
Americans and people throughout the world. It also contributes to One Great
Hour of Sharing, an international organization to help rebuild areas
nationally and internationally that have been through a disaster.
Furthermore, it contributes to the Maine Conference OCWM - "Our Church's
Wider Mission."
